I currently own a 2008 Imac 24 which has all of my Applications on and my photo library stored in Lightroom and iphoto. It is not being set up as a fusion drive but two separate internal drives. This is all being fitted by the Apple Reseller where I live.

Hold down Command-R to boot into Lion Recovery which allows you to format the drives and download Lion over the Internet. Starting with a blank hard drive is easy on the 2011 Mac Mini. I used a cut up coat hanger to insert into the logic board holes and slide it out. Be sure to remove the IR port adapter before sliding out the logic board. But first you need to slide the logic board out slightly. As with my first upgrade, the hard drive goes in the bottom slot (the side closest to the top of the case when upright). I just upgraded another Mac Mini with a 9.5MM SSD and a 12.5MM standard hard drive. UPDATE: My video shows adding two 9.5MM height drives.



OWC still has the Ministack, which will fit underneath the computer with no footprint. There's been a lot of talk on the forums about a drive enclosure that matches the styling of the Mac mini.

My choice is to either install the new SSD as a second internal HD in the mini, or to pull the old conventional drive and retire it to an external enclosure.
